Karyam Nissaram (English: Matter is Simple) is a 1983 Family Drama Malayalam film written and directed by Balachandra Menon, starring Balachandra Menon and Prem Nazir, along with Lakshmi, Poornima Jayaram, Sukumari, Jalaja, Lalu Alex, Baiju and K. P. Ummer. The music was composed by Johnson. It gives us a glimpse into a Malayali family during the period when their children marry off. It is mainly focusing on marriage and the fact the problems in marriage are caused by simple matters which, individuals due to their ego and other problems, make into huge problems. All family problems can be overcome. The film was a blockbuster of 1983. The film has musical score by Kannur Rajan. The film was remade in Kannada as 'En Swamy Aliyandire', Starring Tiger Prabhakar and Jayashri.^[1][2][3]

Currently 'Karyam Nissaram' and 'Oridathoridathu' are the two Malayalam serials in which Anu has got an opportunity to work. In the serial Karyam Nissaram, Anu gives life to the character 'Sathyabhama', an advocate and the wife of a Village officer Mohana Krishnan. Sathyabhama is a bold, independent character and a bit modern too. The popular comedy serial, 'Karyam Nissaram' that was being aired from October 1, 2012 comes to an end. The serial concludes with a total of 1104 episodes.

Plot[edit]

The film deals with the small family of Unnithan (Nasir) and Ammini Kutty (Lekshmi) and their two daughters Parvathi (Poornima) and Sarala (Jalaja). Nasir is an advocate, but he does not practice law due to his principles. Lekshmi is from a rich family and proud of it. They had a love marriage and now he is a henpecked husband. Sarala falls in love with her Lecturer (Lalu alex) and marries him. Balachandra Menon has a workshop and a driving school. Parvathi goes to his driving school to study driving and falls in love with him. Ammini Kutty opposes their love, but they decided to live together. Unnithan approves, but Ammini Kutty initially can't accept her daughter's decision. Avarachan (Ummar), as Nasir's neighbour is an ex-service man who lives with his wife Annie (Sukumary). They are extremely depressed because they have no children. Suddenly Biju (Baiju) appears as Avarachan's illegitimate son, but no one except Unnithan knows it. News of becoming a grandmother brings Ammini Kutty back to Parvathi. Avarachan dies one day. Ammini Kutty become suspicious that Biju is Unnithan's son. This breaks their relationship and they separate. Finally Balachandra Menon takes the initiative to reunite Unnithan (Nasir) and Ammini Kutty.

Unnithan (Nazir) is a quiet frugal person while Ammini (Lekshmi) is more flamboyant and excessively proud of her family background.
